Blog Tour Guest Post: Proper or Plunder by ST Bende

Today we have a fun post from Elsker author, ST Bende. She's playing Proper or Plunder, a little game where she discloses just how much she pillaged from the mythology books to create her crazy cast of Norse gods! Check out the synopsis of Elsker, a new adult paranormal romance:

You don’t win the heart of an immortal assassin without making a few enemies along the way.

Kristia Tostenson prefers Earl Grey to Grey Goose and book clubs to nightclubs, but when she transfers from her one-stoplight town to Cardiff University in Wales she falls in love with Ull Myhr. Her new boyfriend isn’t exactly what she was expecting. He’s an honest to goodness Norse God - an immortal assassin fated to die at Ragnarok, the battle destined to destroy Asgard and Earth. Kristia’s crazy visions are the only thing that can save their realms. Her orderly life just got very messy.

With the fate of the cosmos in Kristia’s inexperienced hands, she’s submerged in a world she never knew existed. Kristia has to learn to control an onslaught of prophetic premonitions, convince Ull’s thunderous stepdad Thor to make her a god, and stop Ull from giving up his immortality in a misguided attempt to save her. In choosing Ull Kristia risks losing everything, including her love… and her life.

Etymology of Elsker - Proper or Plunder:

Thanks so much for letting me visit today, ladies. As a debut author, it’s been such a treat to be embraced by such a lovely group of bloggers. Y’all have been so welcoming!

ELSKER, Book One in THE ELSKER SAGA, follows twenty-year-old Kristia Tostenson as she leaves her small town to find adventure at Cardiff University in Wales. Kristia gets a lot more than she bargained for when she falls in love with Ull Myhr. He’s not just a graduate student -- he’s an Asgardian Assassin, and the Norse God of Winter. Kristia’s orderly life is about to get seriously complicated.

And speaking of complicated, my characters’ names might not sound terribly familiar. Oddly enough, they’re all very traditional. Most of my Norse gods brought their own crazy names to the party, but a few needed a little help from me. I’m a girl who stands on tradition, so I followed the Vikings and pillaged some Scandinavian names from my family and friends. Here’s a little game:

Proper or Plunder

Here are five of my Norse gods. Who has a Proper mythological name, and whose name was Plundered from its rightful owner? Ready? Here we go!

Ull Myhr: The Norse God of Winter, an Asgardian Assassin, and the madly stubborn, irresistibly gorgeous deity who’s about to rock Kristia’s world.
Proper AND Plunder:
Ull is, indeed, the God of Winter’s Norse name. Because you can’t make something like that up. The Myhr part was added by yours truly, and I did, in fact, plunder it from a dear friend.

Inga: The unofficial Domestic Goddess and Ull’s best friend, she and Gunnar follow Ull to Midgard (Earth) to help him find the girl of his dreams.
Plunder:
My family tree is absolutely dripping with Ingeborgs. And while I’m not all that into the Borg part, I am rather partial to Inga. Sounds pretty, don’t you think?

Thor: Ull’s stepdad and the Norse God of Thunder.
Proper:
But we all knew that, right? Who among us does not love Thor in this Post-Avengers era? Though variations of Thor have appeared on my family tree too, so everyone’s a winner here -- have a virtual cupcake, on me.

Gunnar: Inga’s husband, and the Asgardian Assassin ranked #3 in Total Kills. He’s Ull’s other best friend, and he’s pretty scary with a crossbow.
Plunder:
Once upon a time, I knew a Master Ski Boot Fitter named Gunnar. He’s literally legendary in his field. Coolest. Name. Ever.

Olaug: Ull’s grandma, she’s the keeper of the best Norsk waffle recipe in the whole entire world. But if you’re very nice, she just might share it with you at the end of
ELSKER.
Plunder:
Olaug is the name of my endlessly patient Norwegian teacher, who has spent the better part of a decade hoping I learn to say something more than “thanks for the waffle.” But seriously, Olaug, “takk for vaffel”. It’s so good.

Did you guess ‘em right? Tell me in the comments! What’s the craziest name you’ve ever heard in real life? I’ll bet it doesn’t trump Ingeborg…

About the Author:

Before finding domestic bliss in suburbia, ST Bende lived in Manhattan Beach (became overly fond of Peet’s Coffee) and Europe… where she became overly fond of the musical Cats. Her love of Scandinavian culture and a very patient Norwegian teacher inspired the ELSKER series. She hopes her characters make you smile and that one day pastries will be considered a health food.
