Character Interview: Kay from The Burning Star by Jessie Lane

Today we have the pleasure of talking to Kay from The Burning Star! The Burning Star is a thrilling paranormal romance by Jessie Lane. Here's a synopsis:

Can she reach her destiny before tragedy strikes?

The doctors have told Kay that she will die before she reaches her eighteenth birthday. Her mother’s determination to save her life leads them to a move outside of Asheville, NC to a new set of cancer specialists in the hopes to help her. But it’s not what Kay and her Mom find in the doctor’s offices in Asheville that lead them on the journey to save her before time runs out. It’s what Kay finds in the woods outside of Asheville, and an inhumanly gorgeous guy named Ryan, instead.

Myths and fairy tales come to life before Kay’s eyes, bringing her closer to the ultimate cure if she can stay alive long enough to get there. And if the cancer doesn’t kill her before she finds the cure the secrets her mother has hidden from her may be the beginning of the end. ~ Courtesy of Goodreads

Hey, Kay! It’s nice to meet you. I know you’re probably extremely busy so we really appreciate you taking the time to talk to us.

No problem Jesse. Thanks for having me.

Want to introduce yourself a little to our readers?

Sure, Hi everyone! *awkwardly finger waves* My name is Kay, I’m 17, and I just moved to Asheville, NC. I’m addicted to books, clothing featuring rock bands, and my favorite hobby is to draw. *looks to Jesse* That was too much like a support group introduction for people headed to crazyville, wasn’t it?

Not at all! So your life’s been a little unbelievable lately, huh?

That’s seriously the understatement of the year. It started when the doctors told me that I have terminal cancer. Then my mom moves us here to just outside of Asheville because she says these new doctors can help. But before I can even meet the new doctors I stumble upon this feral dog, who doesn’t look like just a feral dog, and this inhumanly hot guy Ryan has to save my bacon.

From there it just starts to feel like my life has turned into a roller coaster ride, you know? After meeting Ryan, I met a second hot guy named Nick. Then I get thrown into this whole new world with creatures that shouldn’t really exist. So now my life seems to be full of people that I’m sure escaped from the loony bin, Ryan and Nick are always sniping at each other, and on top of it all, I’ve got to deal with a mother who would sit on me twenty-four hours a day just to know where I am. It’s exhausting!

I imagine it’s starting to feel like you’re in the middle of a bad sci-fi movie. Only, you know, it’s really happening to you!

Sometimes it is, then I realize it’s not going to fade back to normal at the end. This is my new reality. Not to mention that I try to stay positive and look at the upside. If I can figure out what Nick’s kooky Aunt Regan is talking about, then maybe I can find a cure for my cancer. Crap! No one is going to tell Regan I said that, right? That woman is SCARY.

I won't say a thing! I swear. So, out of all the crazy stuff, what do you think is the craziest, most unbelievable thing that’s happened so far?

You just want me to pick one thing? Can we just say my life then? No? Okay, uhhhh, how about we say the first crazy thing I ran into besides that dog. You know the feral dog that attacked me that I swear DID NOT look like a dog, but Ryan swore it was. So, the first crazy thing after that was the werewolves. Yup. That was enough to short circuit my brain.

I’ve heard a few rumors about you and a certain boy named Ryan. You’ve got to give us the scoop!

*blushes from head to toe* Umm, yeah. Ryan. Did I mention before that he’s inhumanly smokin’ hot? I did? So yeah, he’s extremely good looking. And he can be really sweet when he’s not acting like a jealous jerk, or having gorgeous women stalk him. But besides all of that, I’m not sure what we are just yet.

I understand. I'm sure there's a few juicy moments between you and Ryan in The Burning Star! Okay, Kay. I’ll let you go now. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us!

Anytime Jesse, thanks for talking to me about my rather insane life! Hey, do you by chance know where the closest library is? I need to do some research on these things called Pookas. Oh, and I need to look up some stuff about faery courts. Oh no, your eyes are starting to glaze over. Never mind! Don’t panic! I swear I’m not crazy like the rest of them. I’ll just go now. Bye everybody!

Author Bio:

Jessie Lane is the writing team of Crystal Leo and Melissa Pahl. The two sister-in laws share a great love of breathtaking romance, cliff hanging suspense, and out-of this-world characters that demand your attention or threaten to slap you around until you do pay attention to them. Because really, it is ALL about the characters. (They’re kind of megalomaniacs)

When not losing themselves in a story, they remember they have real lives. Crystal lives in Kentucky with her husband and two little girls who plot daily the many ways they can drive their poor mother crazy. At the end of the day, Crystal calls Melissa and threatens to ship her two nieces to their favorite Aunt with lots of air holes punched through their box. Melissa answers Crystal’s crazed calls in Washington state where she lives with her husband and big furry baby of a Rottweiler named Yuffie, and reminds her that children are not shippable.

This is their first novel, but they are all geared up and excited to be releasing other projects soon!
