My Book Boyfriend (1) CONNIE!

This is our very first My Book Boyfriend here at Pretty in Fiction. That's not to say we haven't had our fair share of fictitious loves, we're just finally sharing our brand of crazy with others who can appreciate it (that'd be you guys).

Here's a rundown of the basics:

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme hosted by Missie over at The Unread Reader. Each week we are meant to pick one fictional boy who is incredibly crush-worthy, and then, basically, talk him up -- you know, show everyone who reads this just why it's a good thing we read these books sitting or lying down.

In a way, I wish that we'd known about this meme in time for last week. We would have been all set. We had our little Adrian Ivaskov vs Dimitri Belikov showdown going and, with a few tweaks, it would have been perfect for this, too.

But this is so, so much better, though I'm fairly certain we won't ever be able to top this week. Why? Two words:

Conrad Fisher.

If you have never read any of Jenny Han's Summer Series, then I recommend you go out and pick up a copy of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Seriously, stop reading this post, get off you rump, and go pick up Connie. You won't regret it (though your heart might hate you for it later).

If you have read the Summer Series -- well, then you probably know where we're coming from.

This meme asks for swoon-worthy boys, and we've picked the trump of them all.

Conrad Fisher, as played by Zac Efron
Conrad Fisher:
* From Boston, Mass.
* Has spent every summer since he was a baby at his mom's beach house in Cousins Beach, with his mom (Susannah), brother (Jeremiah), his mom's best friend (Laurel), and her two kids (Belly and Steven).
* He's a geek. (and who doesn't love geeks?)
Shaking his head, he said, "I was such a little geek."
"No you weren't!"
Conrad threw me a look. "Stamp collecting. Chemistry set. Encyclopedia obsession."
"Yeah, but you made all that seem cool." [We'll Always Have Summer, ebook p. 224/399]
* His mother's cancer relapses, which he takes very hard (destructively so, in some ways), and dies (which he takes even harder).
* Disappears from college to thwart his father's plans to sell the  summer house following Susannah's death.
* (As described by Belly)
Conrad was the older one, by a year and a half. He was dark, dark, dark. Completely unattainable, unavailable. He had a smirky kind of mouth, and I always found myself staring at it. Smirky mouths make you want to kiss them, to smooth them out and kiss the smirkiness away. Or maybe not away...but you want to control it somehow. Make it yours. It was exactly what I wanted to do with Conrad. Make him mine. [The Summer I Turned Pretty ebook p. 17/377]
Why We Love Him:
JesseThere are many reasons why I love me some Conrad Fisher. But the one that always seems to be my downfall with fictional boys is that he is beautiful and broken. Throughout the Summer series Conrad goes through hell. His mother has cancer and eventually dies, and then, because of mistakes he made in the first two books, he must stand idly by and watch the love of his life marry his brother. I love him because he is flawed and perfect all at the same time. Belly sees him as the perfect boy, everything she has ever wanted, even as he makes mistake after mistake with her. But in the end, though it's a long journey, he eventually gets it right.

Kira: There's just something indescribable about Conrad Fisher. Perhaps it's in part because of the main character, Belly's, obvious obsession with him from the beginning (she loved him well before the start of The Summer I Turned Pretty, as we quickly learn, so naturally some of that love rubbed off onto us). Then again, maybe Conrad's just that lovable himself. Regardless, I was hooked from the start -- even if he did act like a jerk half the time.

He totally fits that lovable-idiot persona that, for some strange reason I've yet to figure out, I'm prone to fall for when it comes to my book boys. I can't help it.  I may want to kick his ass for some stupid situations he gets himself into, but at the same time all I want to do is hug him because it's impossible to see him hurt.

Conrad Fisher is the type of boy you compare other boys to. He is the standard. I have had other  great book loves, and it is guaranteed I will have more, but I will be surprised if any of them reach as high as Connie.

Taylor: Conrad Fisher. When I hear that name all I want to do is cry. And the more I think about that name the harder I want to cry. He is perfect. First off, he is gorgeous. Second, he is so broken, all you want to do is hug him until he's better. He is the perfect mix between geeky and cool, he is my fictional crush.

Some Quotes to Make You Swoon:
- "I liked you better with glasses, " he said, his lips close to my ear.[The Summer I Turned Pretty ebook p. 21/377]

- I punched my hand through the water. I wanted to kick his ass. This is between me and Belly. Smug piece of shit.

He was marrying my girl, and I couldn't do anything about it. I just had to watch it happen, because he was my brother, because I promised. Take care of him, Connie. I'm counting on you. [We'll Always Have Summer, ebook p. 209/399]

- I did lie to Belly, though. Just that one time in that crappy motel. I did it to protect her. That's what I kept telling myself. Still, if there was one moment in my life I could redo, one moment out of all the shitty moments, that was the one I'd pick. When I thought back to the look on her face -- the way it just crumpled, how she'd sucked in her lips and wrinkled her nose to keep the hurt from showing -- it killed me. God, if I could, I'd go back to that moment and say all the right things, I'd tell her I loved her, I'd make it so that she never looked that way again. [We'll Always Have Summer, ebook p. 232/399]

  3. Do you have any idea how much I LOVE the Summer series by Jenny Han??!! I'll tell you, it's about as much as I love Conrad Fisher! And that my friends, is more than this. *holds arms out as wide as they will go*

    I absolutely LOVE Conrad. I think it was because he was so hard to read and so moody at times I couldn't help but love him when he wasn't. I couldn't help but love him when he finally grew up and realized what a douche he was being. It was the best moment of the series! *le sigh* Zac Efron fits him PERFECTLY! I would love to lick Zac Efron, btw!:D
